Sully Cormier is a professional skateboarder riding for Baker, Asics, and Supreme, originally hailing from Southwest Florida and now living in New York City.
With opening parts in both Baker’s waterCRACKER and Supreme’s Play Dead, Sully’s approach to skateboarding is reminiscent of the early 2000s heyday of skateboarding, when speed, trick selection, and style defined the energy captured in legacy videos of the era.
For Issue 13, Sully is featured in conversation with Quinn Batley.

How’s having The Boss as your boss?
Great. Andrew’s the fucking man. Every time I go to LA, I stay with him, and we watch a million skate videos and only talk about skating for days on end. It’s surreal.

What’s the last movie that made you cry?
Dude, I haven’t cried from a movie in fucking so long. I think maybe five years ago, after going through my first breakup, I was on a flight to SF, watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and bawled on the plane next to some random dude who was just watching me cry. And I just didn’t really give a fuck. I just let it happen.
What’s the worst date you’ve been on?
Worst date ever. So I was gonna go on a date with this girl, but I forgot that we were going on a date that day. And I got drunk with my friends, and then she texted me, “Hey, I’ll meet you at the bowling alley in 30 minutes,” and I forgot I was supposed to go do that. So I had to rush over there, and I was already drunk. And as soon as we get in there, I have a nosebleed in front of her. She was like, “Oh, your nose is bleeding,” and I was like, oh, fuck. I ran to the bathroom. I was all frantic, thinking Jesus, I’m fucking blowing it. We try to get a lane to bowl together and they were like, “There’s a tournament going on tonight.” So we couldn’t even bowl. I didn’t have any idea of what we could do next, so we just took it to a park and drank beers.
What do you think skating’s missing right now?
Dylan Rieder, Jeff Grosso, Keenan, and every other legend who’s passed away.
What’s up with your Jeff Grosso obsession?
I love Jeff Grosso. He’s my favorite skater. I don’t know when it started or how, maybe watching Love Letters when I was a kid. Even his skating and his style, especially the younger footage of him, like the way his arms are when he pumps up a ramp. He throws his arms in front of him. He’s just sick, and he’s real as fuck. He’s just a gnarly dude and definitely has been through a lot of gnarly shit, which I think a lot of skateboarders can relate to. I don’t know, he just always kept it 100 percent about who he is and honest. I really relate to it and can get behind it. It makes me feel good. I’ll watch his Nine Club interview if I feel super anxious, just to feel better about myself because he’ll tell a fucked up story and I’ll be like, “Oh, fuck, I’m not so bad.” He’s relatable.
What’s the last song you listened to?
“Burnout” by Green Day. Actually, on a curb before this.

So Mark shot this interview. You’ve known Mark forever. You got a favorite Mark story?
I do, in fact. One night, Mark and I were hanging out, drinking, to say the least. We met up with Johnny, Weirdo Dave and a few other people. Someone gave us a bottle of vodka to kind of just sip on together, and we definitely did that. Then we went to this bar called Fanelli’s, and we both got sick and threw up outside together. We were gonna go to the Jane Hotel for a party with everyone. Mark was the only one without a board or a bike. He was the only one without wheels. We just pushed off without him and forgot him. His phone was dead, so he couldn’t contact us and didn’t remember where we were going.
I talked to him the next day, and I guess he fell asleep at the Bowery J-Train Station on the floor, trying to get home. He fell asleep down there and said he just woke up when a train door opened. He just rolled into it, and everyone on the train looked at him, and he must have looked like such a homeless man. Middle of winter, wearing just like a shitty puffer and a beanie.
Thoughts on Instagram?
Instagram fucking sucks. I hope it gets destroyed somehow. It’s fucking stupid.
