Tadanori Yokoo for Living Proof Magazine, Issue 15.

Longevity is something to be admired. At 89 years old, Tadanori Yokoo is filled with life, an impressive energy and curious mentality that keeps him painting on a daily basis. His work speaks for itself. Blending psychedelic imagery, Japanese visual culture, pop art, surrealism, and graphic design, Yokoo helped redefine postwar Japanese art and became one of the most influential artists of his generation. Emerging alongside figures such as Andy Warhol and the international pop art movement of the 1960s, his work has been exhibited in major museums around the world and collected by notable figures for decades.

Despite his immense influence and global recognition, Yokoo remains remarkably pragmatic, humble, and playful in his approach. We had the honor of sitting with him in his studio on a quiet street in Japan, where we spoke about his work, Zen, creativity, and the outlook on life that continues to fuel one of the most celebrated careers in contemporary art.
